Domestic Commercial Water Heaters
Water is in many commercial applications, and every day businesses heat water to serve the needs of their customers. Restaurants, hotels, dairies, and schools all require large amounts of hot water for CIP, cooking, and sterilization.
When water is heated it under-goes a chemical reaction that causes the dissolved minerals (scale) to precipitate out as solids, this scaling drops onto your heating surface (in a tank type water heater) and acts as an insulator between the heat transfer and the water.
Scale has a low thermal conductivity which means it takes longer to heat the water for your process needs, this attributes to higher operating costs (scale that is 1/16th of an inch thick will cause 15% more fuel usage).
The most efficient and effective way to heat water is with a split-tank water heating system from Lochinvar. These units off set scaling of the heating surface by increasing flow (via circulation pump), causing turbulence to keep the scale from precipitating directly on to the heat exchanger, The minerals end up dropping into the separate storage tank where they do not effect fuel usage and can be drained easily because they are not baked on to the metal.
These hot water heaters offer a ROI (return on investment) where other tank type water heaters simply cost you money the longer you run them.
